TGS Insurance Requirements

It is a requirement of The Global Student (TGS) that ALL program participants purchase and show proof of medical and/or health insurance prior to their departure from their home country. Insurance policies must provide sufficient cover for the duration of a participant’s selected program, including any pre- or post-program travel.

TGS highly recommends insurance policies that cover for the following industry -standard minimums:

  • $100,000 minimum for emergency evacuation

  • $200,000 minimum for any type of medical needs

  • $20,000 minimum for repatriation

If proof of insurance coverage provided to TGS falls below the recommended minimums as outlined above, the participant will be asked to sign the TGS insurance waiver. Note that participants who do not provide proof of insurance prior to departure will be excluded from their selected program.

It is likely your home university may provide overseas medical/health insurance to students. If so, please check coverage dates, obtain policy details and 24-hour emergency contact details from the insurance provider. Please provide all details where requested on TGS student support site.

Additional or supplementary comprehensive insurance can be purchased separately and, in most cases, can be arranged in conjunction with your flight bookings. Please note that medical/health insurance provided by a student’s home university may not include ‘travel’ insurance, e.g.: lost luggage. All participants should review their medical and travel insurance, be aware of excess payments related to claims, understand exclusions, and ensure a policy meets their own requirements.

For further information and advice please refer to travel advisories issued by your respective governments regarding travel / health insurance.
