About

The psychology study tour is designed to introduce mental health and wellbeing support and services within a cultural context. Designed to inform and to challenge, the program offers a diversity of site visits to service providers within the mental health landscape. These cover educational psychology and cyberbullying; mental health support serves for refugees, sex-workers, and the transgender community; alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation services; clinical support, social work and disability support serves; the national autism centre; an introduction to VR Therapy; and campus visits to education providers of psychology programs. Interspersed within the academic program are activities of cultural interest including visits to temples and mosques, museums and galleries, and a night market to witness the mind-boggling variety of local delicacies.

Testimonials

‘The trip with the Psychology students was without a doubt the highlight of their undergraduate program. For many of them, it was the first time that they were faced with understanding the human condition from a range of different cultural perspectives. This really challenged them, stretching their ideas and assumptions about psychology and psychological experiences. Many of the students referred to the experience as “life changing” and I felt privileged to be a part of that.

As the program lead, the interaction with TGS made my life 100% easier – the visits were well-targeted, interesting, and seamless. Working with TGS saved us many hours in preparation, and quite frankly there were places that we just would not have been able to get into without their assistance. It was a pleasure to work with TGS, and I can’t recommend them too highly.’ - Dr Kristen Pammer

“I developed a pretty good understanding of how psychology is practiced in Malaysia! The clinical psychs and sites we visited were very informative and were able to answer any of the answers that we had about their practice, what challenges them and how they overcome them” – Jed, Uni of Newcastle.

“…there was a huge range of experiences that provided a nice snapshot of KL. This was both within our discipline as well as through cultural site visits and the food!” – Abbie, University of Newcastle
