Students undertake their 3 week pre-service teaching placements in 3 early childhood centres in Kota Kinabalu (KK). The location of Kota Kinabalu as a smaller city with a rural feel, provides a different cultural overlay from that provided by ECE centres in Kuala Lumpur. The city also experiences a lower socio economic status than that of the capital.

The students arrive with an orientation day on the involving an introduction to the Malaysia ECE system, a group reflection and academic session and a dinner at a local Seafood Restaurant in the evening Students enjoy cultural exposure through day trips to places such as the Kota Belud market, War memorial Garden Kundasang and Poring hot springs, to Linangkit Culture Village and Lok Kawi Wildlife Centre.

"I’d like to thank JMD Consulting for the level of organisation and planning. Everyone enjoyed the experience because of their commitment to the high standards. Thank you! The students were exposed to different methods of teaching and learning in a different culture. They developed an ability to critically think and evaluate foreign curriculum's then compare those to the Australian standards. The students also developed experience in situating knowledge in a contextual and cultural setting. They developed practical methods in teaching children who are coming from EAL backgrounds."
