Communications Management

Overview

The program provides an introduction to Communication Management in Asia, where students gain an understanding of how culture and politics influence the industry, the comparisons and contrasts to the PR and Journalism industry in Australia, and the uptake and influence of digital technology in Asia.

Industry visits may include:

  • The Department of Information within the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture to hear about Malaysia’s Communications policy.

  • International PR companies such as Hill  & Knowlton where they are given a briefing by a senior partner.

  • Local digital communication agencies and content creators such as Cilisos.

  • Site visit to Malaysia’s major English language news portal Malaysiakini, where they hear from one of the founders about the challenges of journalism in Malaysia.

  • Local NGO’s who provide background into the importance of social media as a communication tool in Asia.

  • The Centre for Independent Journalism, a nonprofit, media and freedom of expression watchdog.

Previous groups have also worked with Taylors University students on real life PR campaigns that they had been working together on-line with prior to departure. This provides students with exposure not only to the industry, but engagement with local university students who act as buddies outside of school hours.

The program can be combined with internships at one of the many media and communications providers TGS has relationships with.
